Serra de Tramuntana
Launched to address the ongoing decline of the primary sector in the Serra de Tramuntana, Gastronomic Week is an initiative that emphasizes the importance of local food culture as a vital connection between the community and their land. In response to changing dietary habits and a growing disconnection from traditional practices, this project offers an annual opportunity to explore and celebrate the region’s rich culinary traditions. Each edition features a week-long series of activities, including guided tours, cooking workshops, seminars, and a culinary competition, each centered around a unique culinary theme.
The Serra de Tramuntana, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its cultural landscape, faces a critical challenge: the accelerated abandonment of its primary sector. This decline, driven by shifts in modern food consumption and weakening ties to the land, threatens the region's cultural and ecological sustainability. Revitalizing and promoting the local food culture is essential to preserving the traditions and livelihoods that have shaped the Serra for generations.
The Solution
Gastronomic Week aims to reconnect the community with their culinary heritage by highlighting the deep cultural significance of food in the Serra de Tramuntana. Over the course of a dedicated week each year, the project offers a variety of themed activities designed to engage participants of all ages. By changing the theme annually, the project ensures that each edition remains relevant and captivating, attracting a broad audience and fostering a renewed appreciation for local traditions.

Future Outlook
Building on the success of four previous editions, Gastronomic Week is set to continue as an annual event, with plans to expand activities and increase participation based on feedback and interest from previous years. The project also aims to further enrich the recipe book with new entries from future culinary competitions, ensuring that this cultural resource continues to grow and evolve.
